Amnesty internationals dr graham thom speaks to our audience.

How have the media treated the government?

I am still surprised, but most people don't know. The coverage is always wrong or mischievous.

The report, which came out at the beginning of this year, had said that most of the torture is not so extreme.

The reality is that most of it is. It's very limited in size but some of it is. And most of it is to break people down. A good percentage of it has to do with interrogation and threats and, of course, those are illegal and illegal threats [but] they're not just talking. What's going on is all kinds of things.

Is there any chance it's not just these groups doing the torture?

This is more than just [other] political parties. There's torture being done by the [Palestinian Authority]. It's a very large and influential group, and they're saying they can do it legally. That's not going to stop them. I think it's going to get worse.

Do you believe it was torture? If not, why not?

It really depends on the group. I think what [then Prime Minister Ariel] Sharon did was very illegal and illegal, but it didn't affect the peace process. [But] it made it look like a war crime. He [was] doing that deliberately in order to create a pretext.

When he [Sharon] went to Oslo, and we [then US Secretary of State] Madeleine Albright talked about this, what did she say to Sharon and Bush about this? You had some [US lawmakers] saying: "Get this man [Oslo] off of us and get the United States to back off." They got [US President George W] Bush to back off, and they got that done.

Did [the Israeli prime minister] agree? No.

What do you think he could have done?

For the same reasons he chose not to go. I think what would have happened would not have had the same effect, I think, if he had gone.

But if he had, he would not have had the [Israeli prime minister] Ehud Barak back in the picture.

Vandals blamed for late trains fire on South Boston, sources tell us.

We're told the fire was a car explosion.

There are four people injured, including a young boy. One of the firemen has a severe burn on his leg.

According to local sources, the incident started around 9:30 a.m. at the station near South Street near Central Avenue, when a red Jeep Grand Cherokee stopped for the light at the corner of Central Avenue and North St. We're told the passengers jumped out and jumped into the street in front of the station before setting it on fire.

The fire got out of control after a few minutes and spread to adjacent cars and homes.

This morning, we checked in with the South Boston Fire Department to see if they were able to determine who was responsible for the fire. They told us the cause is under investigation.

This is our full update from police:

At about 9:30 a.m., one male suspect and three female passengers jumped out of their car on the corner of North Street and Central Avenue at Central Avenue and West Street. The three males were later identified as 21-year-old Michael M. Smith, 21-year-old Michael L. Kieffer, and 21-year-old Emily A. Tabor. Officers responded to this crash. Officers were able to gain control of the fire and secure the scene.

The suspects left the area in an unknown direction. Detectives continue to investigate. All the victims have received treatment at the hospital.

The train station is closed from South to East, and the northbound North Shore Line will operate for about 4.5 hours after the fire, according to police. No trains will be running for several hours on the North Shore Line.

This is our full update from Boston's Fire Department:

At about 9:17 a.m., Boston Fire Dept. tweeted they have "no additional information about an incident outside of a fire on the southbound train" between East Cambridge and Massachusetts Avenue.

The South Boston Fire Department is also reporting that they have "no additional information, and are still investigating, concerning an incident in the South of East Boston.

The investigation is ongoing. We are asking the public to report any information that may be related to this event by calling Boston Fire Dept. at 617-234-6423. Anyone who has information about this may call the police hotline at 617-233-8477, Ext. 100.
